Hair transplantation

It involves the transfer of healthy hair follicles, which are not affected by androgenetic alopecia and the  DHT hormone, from the back and the side of our head to an area of reduced or poor hair growth. At LP  hair transplantation clinic, this method can be now applied with a very high rate of growth success, natural result and most of all without any risk to the patient’s health. This obviously is due to our excellent medical and technical training, the experience gained from nearly 3.000 cases, which eventually led to the ultimate specialization of an otherwise medical skin microsurgical procedure.

This is one of the very few microsurgery procedures that achieving a permanent effect and a minimal risk, since surgery is performed by a trained physician who observes medical protocols and complies with medical ethics. In recent years, the technique involving the extraction of individual hair follicles has prevailed FUE prevailed with punch (± 1 mm). It has been characterized as the ultimate medical restoration intervention for men as well as for  20% of women and is the one applied at our clinic.

From the first examination appointment to surgery

1st PHASE
Meeting with our specialized physician who will explain the procedure to youand for a diagnosis. It is essential for the patient to understand the proposed treatment plan and to be given a comprehensive treatment proposal including the design and distribution of the grafts in the affected area. Based on the above, at the end of the discussion, the patient will be informed, on a case by case basis, of the costs of the procedure in order not to have any surprises in the future.

2nd PHASE
The patient books a date for the procedure, by making an advance payment. All pre-invasive and post-interventional instructions are sent via e-mail.

3rd PHASE
Day of medical intervention for restoring patient’s hair growth..
The necessary forms e.g. patient’s consent and medical history will be completed. Then, «before», photographs will be taken after concealing the patient’s features.. Copies of all the above are given at the end of the procedure. After the preparation with the haircut, the medication and special garments we come to the main part of the surgery.

Please note that there is a specifically designed area for the patient only during the procedure. The patient can change clothes, have a meal and relax while enjoying  VIP services, at these facilities overlooking the beautiful Esperides Square, in Glyfada.

Hair Transplant / Implantation FUE + ID by LP

  1. Graft extraction. Grafts/hair follicles are extracted-one by one with a very small cylindrical cutting tool, about 0.1 mm, after performing 6 needle punches to solely numb the donor area with local anesthesia. The process lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours. In some cases, it may be extended, in order to achieve the maximum possible extraction.
  2. A break for designing your transplant pattern and a light meal to the patient’s taste in the specially designed area. This is followed by the final design and the signed consent form.
  3. Graft placement. . Grafts are placed one by one using Implanter 0.1 mm or of a smaller diameter one by one with the direct application technique, without reception holes or additional injury. This will be preceded by 6  punches used to numb the recipient area with local anesthesia .
It is therefore considered a minimally traumatic as well as a rapid healing procedure, without any particular side effects for the patient. The duration of this phase again varies on a case by case basis, depending on the grafts, the haircut and the placement area (between 2 and 3 hours).
  4. Instructions/ photos/ products
At the end of the procedure, written postoperative instructions are given to the patient with the dates of the prescheduled two and six month follow-up examinations and a full explanation of the light medication to be taken in the following 3 days. At the end,  «after» photos will be taken for the clinic record.
Before leaving the clinic, patients can, if they wish, purchase all the necessary hair products they will need for their post operative care and beyond it.

A:  It involves minimal pain, especially when compared with conventional anesthesia infusion techniques. We have developed LP (Low Pain) anesthesia using the well-known xylocaine anesthetic in which we use an anesthetic cream at first and then 70% less needle stinging (punching). Subsequently, donor and recipient areas become numb and the patient feels absolutely nothing.

A: Very little or none in 95% of patients. This is a microsurgical and minimally invasive operation. As a result, the injury is superficial both during one by one extraction of follicular units using a small Punch 1.0 mm FUE, and when placing the grafts using an Implanter with a 1.0 mm small needle, directly without reception holes. This method is known as LP + ID (implantation direct)

A: Varies from 95% to 100%. Hair growth rate depends on:

  • the method of graft preservation during extraction  (stable temperature 4-8 ° C)
  • the graft preservation fluid, which is not a conventional saline solution, but an American isotonic product, which is considered as the ideal product to use globally.
  • the handling of hair follicles by the nurse. Our excellent training and experience minimizes the rate of human error, when grafts are classified.
  • the way grafts are implanted directly with IMPLANTER, avoiding the creation of reception holes and the use of a forceps.

All the above have been standardized in protocols at LP clinic, thus ensuring your excellent hair growth , due to the long experience of its personnel.

A: Yes it is! Hair transplantation is one of the few interventions that have a permanent results because hair follicles simply change growth area rather than their DNA. Therefore, they will not be affected by DHT hormone hypersecretion in their new growth area.

A: After 6 months approximately. Quite sooner than in the past when waiting time was between 9 and 12 months. This is because the implants are minimally processed by the nurse, are not modified or cut under the microscope.

A: An average of 3 to 4 times although there are patients that have up to 7 operative sessions, but with fewer graft extractions each time. Consequently, depending on the initial density, the size of the donor area, the extraction method (uncut, strip or cut) and the grafts extracted each time, a donor area of normal density can supply in a lifetime /in total 4,000 to 6,000 grafts approximately. That is approximately 50% of the total number of implants present in a donor area.
(220 square centimeters per donor area X 55 grafts or 110 hairs per square centimeter = 12,000 grafts). But this is something to be tailored to patients needs and involves many parameters.

A: It takes 10 days for donor and recipient areas to clear and heal so that there no visible scars there. Usually after the first day redness largely fades away. Your hair will be shampooed for the first time 3 days after the procedure at our clinic by our nurse and your head will be gradually cleaned using shampoo for 7 days. But you can cover it with a hat from the first day already. Our hair grows 2.5 centimeters per month and everything is quickly covered within 15 days.

A:  The first option is the marine haircut. Hair at the top remains as it is and hair on the sides is clipped very short.
The second and most difficult option is hair transplanting to a head with UNCUT hair. It is a procedure that few doctors in the world would be able to perform with good results.

Note that we expect to extract 30% fewer grafts per day using this method because it is more time-consuming. Therefore, we recommend a two-day session as the ideal duration for extracting a sufficient number of grafts.

Finally there is strip shaving shaving for those who have hair at least 7 cm long in the donor area. In this case extraction is performed centrally from an area covered by long hair.

A: The price differs on a case-by-case basis as normally expected, but is very affordable. And in terms of value, it is definitely invaluable for the patient’s psychological state of mind.

A:  Approximately 8 hours with a lunch break in-between. Due to its length we always try to make it more agreeable by having the patient listen to music, talk with the doctor or even sleep (for some of our patients) and would describe it as an overall pleasant experience. In the two-day event the duration may vary slightly, approximately between 6 and 7 hours each day.

A: With hair transplantation, when it is medically acceptable as in the case of injuries, scars and burns. With treatments when the condition excludes the option of transplantation.
