Let’s clarify something that I think still confuses a lot of people. Vaccines do NOT work like condoms. In other words, completing the vaccination does NOT work like a mental shield outside our nose that does not allow the virus to enter. <\/strong><\/p>\n

What these vaccines do and protect us is shorten reaction time.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Before we were vaccinated, from the moment the virus entered our nose and infected the first cells in the nasal mucosa, at least a week had to pass before the \u201cborder guard\u201d cells could detect it, carry it to the \u201cfactory,\u201d and ultimately produce the immunity tools\u2014antibodies, killer cells, etc.\u2014needed to contain it. During that week, the virus could sometimes sneak further into our lungs unchecked, causing pneumonia, systemic inflammation, and widespread havoc, which in some cases could be fatal. <\/p>\n

In contrast, when we are vaccinated, instead of 7\u201310 days, it takes only a few hours for our memory immune cells\u2014which patiently sit in our lymph nodes waiting silently\u2014to be alerted and immediately produce the immunity tools they have already learned from the vaccine. This makes the reaction window much shorter, so the virus doesn\u2019t get a chance to complete a serious infection cycle in the lower respiratory tract. Usually, in those few hours, the virus stays mainly in the nose and upper respiratory tract, causing only a mild cold-like illness (a little mucus to trap the virus in the upper airways and sometimes a slight fever).
\nIn some people (usually older adults or those who are more vulnerable), the memory immune systems are somewhat weakened, so it takes longer for them to be properly alerted and for the defense mechanisms to activate after a possible re-infection (for example, the \u201cborder guard\u201d cell may be slow to signal the virus\u2019s entry). In these cases, time is lost, giving the virus a chance to cause symptomatic secondary infections. <\/p>\n

In the vast majority of cases, full vaccination deprives the virus of the necessary vital time and thus we do not become very seriously ill.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
